COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCREEN, TANGENT, EYE EXAMINING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers two types of tangent screens of the Bjerrum design used for diagnosing pathological conditions of the living human eye by providing an accurate method of charting the central and paracentral fields of vision at one and two meter test distances.
Type I: Roller type
Type II: Folding type
Salient characteristics:
Material – the screen shall be constructed of high quality 100% wool, mothproof black felt. All markings shall be stitched in semi-visible black or dark red thread and the backing material shall be made of a black, non-woven, synthetic material.
Dimensions – All dimensions that are given in inches have a tolerances of + or – 1.0 inch. The screen shall be 60 inches wide by 72 inches long. The backing shall be 46 inches wide by 68 inches long and shall be stitched at the top and bottom on the back of the screen.
Markings – Shall have seven concentric circles that measure every 5 degrees starting at 5 degrees and ending at 35 degrees. Shall have 16 radial lines spaced 22.5 degrees apart beginning at 0 degrees from the horizontal. Four normal blind-spot outlines shall be accurately located on the screen. Two blind-spots, one for the right eye and one for the left, shall be located for a one meter test distance and two shall be located for a two meter test distance.
Type I, Tangent Screen, Roller – The top edge of the screen shall be securely attached to a torsion-spring loaded roller (Window shade type). A rigid molding shall be securely attached to the bottom of the screen of sufficient weight to keep the screen flat when being used in the vertical plane. The unit shall be supplied with mounting brackets to mount the roller on the wall.
