The lens diameter under this specification shall be 71 mm ± 1 mm diameter for the single vision and the bifocal, except as noted in the specification. Other shapes are acceptable, provided equivalent size is met. All lenses shall be clear white, free of any visible color tint.
Refractive power tolerance for the finished lens shall be as follows:
Sphere |
0.00 thru 6.50 diopter is ± 0.13D Greater than + 6.50 diopter or less than – 6.50 diopter is ± 2% |
Cylinder |
-0.25 thru -2.00 diopter is ± 0.13D -2.12 thru -4.50 diopter is ± 0.15D less than -4.50 diopter is ± 4% |
All plastic lenses shall be capable of passing the impact resistance specified in the current edition of ANSI Z80.1, Recommendations for Prescriptions Ophthalmic Lenses. For Type II finished lenses, contractor shall, when requested, pull sample(s) from each lot and demonstrate the impact resistance test for the contracting officer’s representative. For Type I semi-finished lenses, the contractor shall, when requested, allow the contracting officer’s representative to inspect quality assurance records demonstrating the capability of surfaced Type I lenses to pass the impact resistant test.
All plastic lenses shall be clear white made primarily of Allyl Diglycol Carbonate (ADC). The lens material shall contain not less than 85% ADC and have an index of refraction of 1.498 nominal and a specific gravity of 1.32 nominal. Lenses shall be free of bubbles, inclusions, striae, and cloudiness, except that small edge bubbles which do not adversely affect lens utilization are allowed. Lenses shall remain clear and free of discoloration under normal use (including outdoor wear) for a period of one year from date of shipment.
