OPHTHALMOSCOPE, BINOCULAR, INDIRECT

This Commercial Item Description covers a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope that is worn on the head and is used for stereoscopic and extreme fundus examinations.
Salient Characteristics.
Shall be a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope comprised of a lamp housing, binocular body, head band, transformer, three aspheric viewing lenses (14D, 20D, and 28D), sclera depressor, recording charts, carrying case, teaching mirror, three replacement lamp bulbs (6.5 volts, 18 watts), two instruction manuals, and two parts manuals.
Lamp Housing- Shall be sturdy, light weight and properly ventilated for adequate heat dissipation. Shall be equipped with a heat absorbing glass filter used to absorb infrared transmissions, a condenser lens, a diffuser lens and two removable filter: one red-free filter for critical examinations of blood vessels; one ultraviolet filter used for fluorescent techniques. Shall provide for adjustment of the filament in two coordinates: Centering for optimum positioning of the filament; raised or lowered to vary the size of the spot to fill the aperture of various viewing lenses. Shall have an adjustable reflecting mirror to minimize reflections and increase effective viewing with more patients. Mirror shall be easily accessible for cleaning. Lamp socket shall be removable for easy lamp bulb replacement.
Binocular Body- Shall be multi-adjustable with self locking, ratchet type adjusters and fitted with an aluminum frontal piece for mounting of the binocular indirect ophthalmoscope. The instrument, when mounted, shall move out of the way of the examiner without removal of the head band or disconnecting the ophthalmoscope from the head band. Shall be padded at the front, rear and top ensure the wearers comfort.
