COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FRAME, OPTHALMIC TRIAL LENS SET
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to military specification MIL-F-37576.
This Commercial Item Description covers one type of ophthalmic trial lens frame with corneal sighting device for use with a trial lens set in performing ocular refractions.
Salient Characteristics:
The frame shall be adjustable for universal fit of all heads and bridges without discomfort to the patient.
Majority of the frame components shall be made of lightweight aluminum alloy with exception of the temples and cell clips, which shall be made of spring steel. The temple tips shall hold the frame snugly against the patients’ head by a spring device at the hinges.
Diameter of the eye opening shall be 32-1/2 ± 1/2 mm. Temples shall have adjustable lengths up to 1-1/2 inch. Nosepad shall have adjustable height extended to 12 mm and adjustable tilt angle of ± 3 degrees nominal from its vertical axis. PD shall be adjustable from 48 to 80 mm.
The frame shall have one stationary cell and triple rotating cell. All cells shall be capable to accommodate 1-1/2 inch diameter trial lenses.
Cylinder axis and PD scales shall be clearly and permanently marked in black or white color.
The frame shall be clearly and legibly marked with manufacturer’s name or registered trademark.
All aluminum surfaces, except the knobs shall be anodized or applied an even coat of paint. The color scheme shall be conformed to commercially available product.
Workmanship. The trial frame shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
