MEASURE, LENS, OPHTHALMIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a hand-held lens measuring clock of Geneva Improved type use for determining the dioptric powers of an ophthalmic lens by measuring the surface curvatures.
Salient characteristics:
The clock shall be palm size approximately two inches in diameter. The dial shall be grsduated in 0.25 diopter steps up to plus and minus 17.00 diopters. Accuracy shall be within ± 0.1 diopter from zero to full scale. The plus and minus dials shall be differentiated by black and white face. The crystal shall be made of clear plastic or glass material.
The edge of the clock shall have three protruding blunt steel points with the two outer points fixed and the center point movable. The points shall be usable on either glass or CR-39 lens surface without scratching. A plastic cover shall be snug fitted to the points area to protect the points when not in use.
The metal case shall be made of polished corrosion-resisting metal.
Each instrument shall be legibly and permanently marked with the name or trademark of the manufacturer.
Workmanship. The instrument shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One lens clock, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
