COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
EDGER, HAND, OPHTHALMIC LENS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a machine suitable for hand edging the ophthalmic lenses. The machine shall be completed with motor, drive belt and metal base or wood cabinet.
Salient characteristics:
The edger shall be designed for table top mounting having cast aluminum base. Top of the wheel cover shall have a cooling water reservoir with petcock.
Shall have a 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inch flat face by 10-inch diameter grinding wheel supported by sealed ball bearing pillow blocks. Grinding wheel shall be made of aluminum oxide with very fine grain (200 to 280 grit). When mounted on the spindle, the out-of-round tolerance shall be limited to ± 0.002 inch.
The wheel shall be V-belt driven, equipped with protective belt-guard. The motor shall be operated on 115 volt, 60 hertz, 1750 RPM nominal, rated not less than 1/4 HP. A toggle switch shall conveniently be located to activate the motor. Electric cord shall be not less than 6 feet long with 3-prong plug conform to ANSI C73.11.
Shall have a hand rest near the grinding wheel for truing stone or work piece.
Shall be provided with a heavy duty metal stand or wood cabinet. When wood cabinet is furnished, supply with a formica top capable to support the edger. Table top shall be not less than 18 inches wide x 22 inches deep x () inches high.
The unit shall have a name plate with manufacturer’s name and power rating.
Workmanship. The hand edger shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One hand edger with stand as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
