COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
OPHTHALMOSCOPE, RETINOSCOPE AND TRANSILLUMINATOR SET
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a combination ophthalmoscope, retinoscope and transilluminator set for diagnosing and treating eye injuries or diseases, and measurement of refraction error. A power handle shall be used common to all three heads. A protective case and required spare bulbs shall also be furnished with this set.
Salient characteristics:
Opthtalmoscope head shall be fitted with a gas filled bulb designed to operate at not more than 3.5 volt. The bulb shall be precentered prefocused with indexing pin to provide proper bulb precentered prefocused with indexing pin to provide proper bulb filament to reflecting optics alignment.
Opthtalmoscope head lens system shall consist of at least 23 lenses plus one zero power aperture in a single dial. Minimum ranges shall be from minus 1D to minus 25D, plus 1D to plus 40D. Each lens shall be indexed with a number shown on the window. A five-position selector shall provide one each red-free and yellow filter or grid line, clear slit, pin hole, and large aperture.
Retinoscope head shall be streak type with mirror reflecting optics, fitted with gas filled or vacuum enhanced bulb designed to operate at not more than 3.5 volt.
Transilluminator head shall be Finoff type fitter with gas filled or vacuum enhanced bulb designed to operate at not more than 3.5 volt.
Power handle shall be able to accommodate two “C” cells and one conversion filler. As an alternate, provide a 2.5 or 3.5 rechargeable Ni-Chad cell with a built in 115 volt AC recharger. All handles shall have a variable rheostat to vary the brightness and power “OFF” position lock.
Provide one spare bulb for the ophtalmoscope, one for retinoscope and two spare bulbs for the transilluminator. Bulbs shall be identical to the ones installed.
