COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLIERS, OPTICIANS’, SCREW AND RIVET PEENING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one type of opticians’ pliers to be used for spectacle screw and rivet peening.
Salient characteristics:
Shall conform to the design and dimensions as shown in Figure 1.
Shall have a peening and an anvil jaw.
The anvil tip shall be suitable for use with round-headed and flat-headed screws.
The peening tip shall be shaped to permit spreading the screw end through pressure only, without the necessity for rocking or rotating.
The pliers shall be the box lock type with no looseness between the two halves of the pliers in the open or closed position.
Shall be made of tool steel type 1040 series, nickel plated or chromium plated over nickel base throughout, with scratch brush finish at the bottom halves of the handles.
Hardness shall be C43 Rockwell or better.
The pliers shall be permanently marked with manufacturer’s name or logo.
Workmanship. The pliers shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One pliers, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
